Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue

Becoming a member of support staff

Becoming a member of support staff....

Keeping the fire appliances moving....

The Service presently employs some 90 non-uniformed members of support staff, whose crucial and diverse roles alongside uniformed colleagues ensures that the operational frontline maintains its day-to-day effectiveness.
Hydrant being inspected
Most of our support staff work at our Service Headquarters in Hertford, with others based across the county at various fire stations, divisional headquarters, fire safety offices, the Occupational Health Unit and the Service's training centre.

Professional roles undertaken by support staff cover a wide spectrum, from accountancy to inspecting hydrants; overseeing the fire service vehicle fleet to computer aided design; media services to personnel; driver training to office services.

In keeping with other jobs in Hertfordshire County Council, non-uniformed Fire Service positions will often appear in the local newspapers as and when vacancies arise. Other specialist and managerial vacancies are advertised when required, in professional journals or national publications including The Guardian. You can search for jobs or register to be kept informed of new support staff vacancies on our website - see HertsDirect.org for more details.

Our staff enjoy good working conditions and local government pension scheme, whilst benefiting from an active sports and social scene embraced across the Service.
