Career Progression Scheme, Grades 3, 5 and 7
(£16830 - £19126, £22958 - £26276 and £30851 - £34549 respectively)



We are looking for two motivated individuals to carry out Fire Protection duties for our Central Command. The posts will be based in Barnstaple and Exeter respectively, but with an expectation that individuals will undertake work where it is required within the Command.



Within the scope of the career progression scheme candidates must either be able or have the potential to conduct Fire Safety inspections/audits of premises that are covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. They will also prepare and issue letters of compliance/non-compliance and enforcement notices as well as updating drawings/plans of premises. There is an opportunity to work with other Enforcing Authorities on compliance events/presentations as well as giving Fire Safety advice to businesses, the general public and other Fire Service employees.



Excellent communication/presentation skills, the ability to influence and persuade others and resilience when dealing with a challenging workload are essential for this role. The successful candidates will be committed to continuous improvement and have the ability to work as a team member and on their own.



You will have the ability to show or acquire an in depth knowledge and practical application of the Fire Safety legislative requirements, codes of practice, technical guidance and British Standards. You will also be able or have the potential to pursue enforcement processes and liaise with Building Control Officers, approved Inspectors and other Enforcing Authorities. If not already qualified, ultimately you will have the opportunity to achieve MIFE status or hold a qualification in Fire Safety as well as an accredited qualification in risk assessment.



Appointments will be to the appropriate grade, dependent on the existing skills of the candidates and will be at the lowest point of the relevant salary scale.
