Watch Manager (B) - Urban Search and Rescue Tutor

We are proud of our reputation as a world leading fire training college and our primary role in supporting UK Fire & Rescue Services. We are seeking to appoint a new USAR Tutor to support the delivery of the College??s Urban Search & Rescue training courses. This challenging role will require a talented, qualified and experienced officer to deliver the requirements of the USAR learning and development modules. We need someone with the enthusiasm, experience and ability to develop, plan, deliver and evaluate these important courses so that we can provide the best possible support to Fire & Rescue Services and the wider Fire & Rescue and emergency services sector in this very challenging arena.

We need the successful candidate to be highly motivated, show an innovative approach, integrity, tenacity and sound judgment. They will also need first rate people skills and the ability to teach this specialised subject matter to a very high standard.

To be eligible to apply for the USAR Tutor vacancy, applicants should:

  • Be a substantive, competent, Crew or Watch Manager within a Local Authority Fire & Rescue Service
  • Have successfully completed the USAR1T Initial Technicians course.
  • Have successfully completed the USAR2T Technicians course.
  • Ideally have completed USAR5T Timber shoring course.
  • Ideally have completed USARI USAR instructor course.
  • Have recent experience of working as a USAR Technician or Instructor in a Fire & Rescue Service
  • Possess a significant level of specialist knowledge, expertise and interest in the USAR field, and a good understanding of the challenges faced at Urban Search & Rescue incidents.
  • Have served in a training reference, possess a recognised teaching qualification or be willing to work towards achieving one.

The post is set at Watch Manager (B) including a 20% training allowance and conditions of service applicable to this post are those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Authorities Fire and Rescue Services and local conditions of service.

This post is offered on a 2 year secondment basis and applicants should ensure they receive the support of their Chief Officer before applying.

Please note that applicants who have previously been seconded to the College cannot bere-considered for a further secondment within two years of their end-of-secondment date.
