Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is a high performing, well motivated and progressive organisation that has high ambitions for the service it provides to the people of Berkshire. The retirement of our current Chief Fire Officer provides an opportunity for a talented Principal Officer to provide the leadership and vision necessary to drive the service forward on its journey of continuous improvement through effective change.

The role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to make a major contribution to the changing shape of Fire and Rescue Services at a local, regional and national level. The Chief Fire Officer role clearly requires a person of exceptional calibre with proven strategic management & operational command experience, within a similar organisation and with the commensurate high level skills. Candidates need to be able to demonstrate the advanced people management and leadership skills necessary to effectively lead a highly regarded workforce. Additionally, they will be able to show examples of their personal success in current and previous posts.

Key within this post is the ability to create and maintain excellent working relationships with the Fire Authority Members. A positive approach to partnership working and the ability to work within a challenging financial environment will be essential.
