Whether you are interested in becoming a Wholetime Firefighter or an On-Call Firefighter, Fire Control Operator or a member of Non-Uniformed staff, today's Fire & Rescue Service can offer you an exciting, varied and challenging career.

Being a firefighter is not just about jumping on a fire engine and racing to an emergency, an important part of today's fire service is fire prevention and education. When an emergency does occur our firefighters are fully trained and equipped to deal with a range of emergencies, from a chemical spillage to saving a person from a burning building.

Fire Control handles over 14,000 emergency calls a year. Fire Control Operators are the first point of contact for people contacting the Fire and Rescue Service in an emergency, so it is important that they have the ability to act calmly and efficiently whilst providing reassurance to the caller.

Non-uniformed positions provide a vital support role in a variety of different functions such as mechanics, technicians, administrative staff, managers and driving instructors.

The Fire and Rescue Service is an equal opportunities employer and in order to eliminate discrimination, the Service has adopted an Equality and Diversity Policy Statement.
